Problem: The Furnace Doesn’t Turn On

Furnace Troubleshooting Tips

If you’ve ever woken up to a freezing house and found that the furnace has stopped working, you’re not alone. This is a fairly common issue with furnaces. So, before you call for a repair technician, there are several things you should check.

Check your thermostat

The first thing we recommend is checking your thermostat. Make sure the battery isn’t dead. If it is, simply replace it with a new one to get your furnace running again. If you replace the battery and your furnace still doesn’t run, make sure that it is set to “HEATING” mode. If your furnace is connected to your home’s electrical system, you should check the circuit breaker. Make sure the circuit breaker is turned to the “ON” position.

If these furnace tips don’t help, we suggest you contact your Constellation Home furnace repair specialists.

Problem: The Furnace Runs, But Isn’t Pumping Out Warm Air

Furnace Troubleshooting Tips

If you’re using your furnace for the first time in several months, you may run into this problem. Your furnace may just need a bit of time to warm up. If after some time, it still isn’t blowing warm air, try the following:

  • Make sure your air filter is clean. Dirty filters slow air flow.
  • Make sure your home’s vents are cleared of all obstructions.
  • Check your circuit breaker and power supply.

Problem: The Furnace Keeps Shutting Off

Furnace Troubleshooting Tips

Make sure there are no heat-generating devices near your thermostat; they could cause your system to shut off.

If the troubleshooting tips above don’t remedy the issue, contact the HVAC professionals at Constellation Home. We’ve been expertly repairing gas and electric furnaces, heat pumps and boilers for decades.
